Depression Therapy for Adults in California

With Mark Spurlock, LMFT 45318, by secure video across California.

Low energy. Pulling away from people you love. Going through the motions. Depression can make even small tasks feel heavy, and it often hides behind "I am just tired." I work with men and women by secure video anywhere in California. We look at what is driving it and build a plan forward, one step at a time.

What depression looks like

  • Sleeping too much or too little
  • Losing interest in things that used to matter
  • Feeling flat, numb, or heavy most days
  • Pulling away from your spouse, children, or friends
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Harsh thoughts about yourself

In men, depression often shows up differently: irritability, anger, overwork, or shutting down. It can go unnoticed for years because it does not look like sadness.

How depression affects a marriage and family

Depression goes quiet at home. A spouse can feel shut out and start to wonder what they did wrong. Children notice a parent who is in the room but not present. This is not a failure of love. It is a load that has become too heavy, and it can be lifted.

How we work on it

  1. Look at the load. What you are carrying, and what has piled on over time.
  2. One small next step. Depression shrinks your world. We widen it one honest step at a time.
  3. The body. Sleep, movement, and daily rhythm, because mood follows the body more than people expect.
  4. The thinking. The beliefs that keep you stuck, examined in plain language.
  5. The people. Reconnecting with the ones who matter to you.

There is no rush to "feel better." We stay with what is true today and take the next honest step.

What a first session is like

Book with Mark. Your insurance is checked before the session. We meet by secure video from anywhere private. You tell me what has been happening. I ask direct questions and listen. Before we finish, we agree on one clear first step.

Common questions

Is it depression or am I just worn out?

Being worn out improves with rest. Depression usually does not. If low mood or loss of interest has lasted two weeks or more, it is worth a conversation.

Can therapy help depression without medication?

For many people, yes. For others, therapy and medication together work best. As a therapist I do not prescribe, and I can work alongside your physician or psychiatrist.

What if I do not have the energy to start?

That is the depression talking, and it is common. Booking one session is the only step you need today. We take it from there.

How do I help a spouse who is depressed?

You can come in yourself. One steadier person in a home changes the home. Couples sessions are also available from the Marriage Counseling page.

Do you take insurance for depression therapy?

Many major plans are accepted. Use "Check my insurance" to find your plan and book. Private pay is also available.
