With Mark Spurlock, LMFT 45318, by secure video across California.
Premarital counseling for couples across California. A four-session series for 600 dollars, which saves you 200. By secure video. 25 years of counseling experience.
Most couples come to counseling after years of the same argument. You have a better option. Learn the skills now, before the pattern sets. Remarrying, or already married and one of you is unsure about staying? See marriage counseling when one spouse wants out.
I am Mark Spurlock, a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, license 45318, counseling since 1998 and licensed since 2008. I work with premarital couples by secure video anywhere in California. Christian Counseling is available.
Nobody is checking whether you are ready. The point is to put words to the things you have each assumed, and to build a way of handling disagreement that holds up when you are tired, broke, or far from home.
Money. What each of you learned about it growing up, and what you will actually do with it.
Family. In-laws, holidays, and how much say anyone else gets.
Children. Whether, when, and how you would raise them.
Conflict. How each of you learned to fight, and what happens in your house when you disagree. We also start identifying the patterns that repeat.
Expectations. The things nobody said out loud, which are usually the ones that bite later.
There are a host of skills taught for your Marriage and Family. Among them: Relationship Radar, Emotional Mastery, Healthy Agreements and Healthy Communication. Premarital couples get them with time to practice before it matters.
Sessions are 53 to 60 minutes by secure video.
First session: 200 dollars, the regular couples rate.
Then four sessions prepaid: 600 dollars, which is 150 a session and saves you 200.
The four sessions are paid at the start of the series, after that first session.
Most couples take it, and the reason is simple. Committing to four means you get past the first conversation and all the way through agreements, which is the part that changes how you handle the next ten years. Couples who go one session at a time often stop at two, right before the work gets useful.
If you stop before using all four, the sessions you have not used are refunded. Sessions are good for six months from the day you start.
Most couples do the four-session series after their first session. Some want a fifth or sixth. We decide that together, and nothing is open-ended.
Premarital counseling is private pay. Insurance covers treatment for a diagnosis, and premarital counseling does not have one. That is why the series exists: 600 dollars for four sessions, with a sliding fee scale if that is out of reach.
Sessions you have not used are refunded. No argument.
No. There is much wisdom in Scripture, and the principles I teach never contradict it.
The counseling work is between the three of us. You are free to tell your pastor anything you choose, and many couples do.
