For Referring Professionals

I am Mark Spurlock, a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, license 45318. I have been counseling since 1998 and licensed since 2008. This page is for pastors, attorneys, mediators, and fellow therapists who want to send someone to me.

Who I see

  • Adults, 18 and older, anywhere in California.
  • Individuals: ADHD, anger, anxiety and panic, depression, trauma, childhood trauma, addiction, and men’s issues.
  • Couples: married and premarital.
  • Christian Counseling is available for individuals and couples.
  • All sessions are by secure video, 53 to 60 minutes.

Insurance and fees

  • Many major insurance plans are accepted. The client checks their plan at marriageandfamily.com/find-your-plan and books from there.
  • Private pay: 150 dollars per individual session, 200 dollars per couples session. A sliding fee scale is available.

How to refer

  1. Give the person this website, marriageandfamily.com, or the phone number, (619) 813-0315. Calls and texts reach me anywhere in California.
  2. The person checks their plan and books their own first session. I do not take client information from a third party by email, because email is not private.
  3. If you want to speak with me first about whether someone is a fit, call or write to info@marriageandfamily.com with no client details. I reply within two business days.
  4. If someone is in danger, call or text 988, or call 911.

After the referral

  • With the client’s written authorization, I will confirm that they started and send a short update when it helps their care. Without it, I cannot confirm that anyone contacted me.
  • If someone is not a fit, I give three referrals, as I do in all my practice.

About me

  • M.S., Counseling Psychology, California State University, Fullerton.
  • Ten years leading court-ordered domestic violence groups in Orange County and San Diego, 1998 to 2008.
  • Trained as a child therapist with children of trauma; today I work with the adults those children became.
  • Former seminary adjunct teaching marriage and family therapy graduate students.
