Therapy with Sutter Health in California

Yes, I take Sutter Health. I am Mark Spurlock, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and I meet with adults by secure video anywhere in California. You can book directly below, and your coverage is checked before the first session so there are no surprises.

What I help with

Most of the people I see come in for one of these:

I work with men and women. Individual counseling is a good place to start. When you have your footing, couples sessions are an option when you both want to work on the marriage.

About your Sutter Health coverage

Sutter Health members across Northern California can book with me directly. If you work for Sutter or get your coverage through Sutter Health, your mental health benefit usually covers online counseling with a licensed therapist.

For Sutter Health members in Northern California

Sutter Health members live across Northern California, from the Bay Area through Sacramento and the Central Valley. If you work for Sutter, you spend your shift taking care of other people, and then you go home and do it again. This hour is for you. We meet by secure video, so there is no drive, and you can book around days, nights, or a rotating schedule. We keep it practical. You tell me what is wearing you down, and we agree on one clear step before the session ends.

How it works

  1. Click the button and pick a time. Sessions are 53 to 60 minutes.
  2. Your Sutter Health coverage is checked before we meet. Your copay, if any, follows your plan.
  3. We meet by secure video from anywhere private: home, the office, or a parked car.
  4. You tell me what brought you in. I ask direct questions and listen. Before we finish, we agree on one clear first step.

I draw on cognitive behavioral therapy and other practical approaches, explained in plain language. You leave each session with one thing to practice.

Why a marriage and family therapist

Whatever brings you in rarely stays with one person. A short fuse, a bad stretch of sleep, a habit that got away from you: the people at home feel it. When one person gets steadier, the whole home feels that too. I have been counseling since 1998, and that is the work.

Common questions

Does Sutter Health cover online counseling?

Most plans cover online counseling by secure video under the mental health benefit. Your coverage is checked before we meet, so you know before the first session.

I work for Sutter. Is counseling private from my employer?

Yes. Sessions are confidential, within the limits the law sets for all therapists. Your employer is not told what we talk about.

I work shifts. Can I get a time that fits?

Pick from the open times when you book. We meet by video, so you can do a session before a shift, after one, or on a day off, from anywhere private in California.

Do I need a diagnosis to start?

No. You can start without one. We look at your history and what your weeks look like, and I assess as part of our work together.

Can my spouse join?

Start with individual counseling. Couples sessions are booked from the Marriage Counseling page when you are both ready.

What if my plan changes?

Tell me before your next session. I take several plans; see all plans on the Find Your Plan page, and private pay is also available.
