I am Mark Spurlock, a California Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, license 45318. I have been counseling since 1998 and licensed since 2008. I work with husbands and wives by secure video anywhere in California, and Christian Counseling is available.
There is much wisdom in Scripture, and the principles I teach never contradict it.
That is worth saying plainly, because it is the thing couples worry about before they call. You will not be asked to set your faith aside to do this work. Telling the truth. Keeping your word. Hearing your spouse before you answer. Repairing what you broke, and not waiting to be caught. None of that is borrowed from somewhere else and bolted onto what you believe. You will recognize it.
This is licensed therapy. It is not pastoral counseling and it is not spiritual direction. I do not take your pastor’s place.
What it means is that your faith is not something you leave at the door. Scripture, prayer and the commitments you made before God can have a place in the room. How much is up to you. Some couples want faith woven through the work. Some want a counselor who shares it and little said beyond that. Both are fine, and you can change your mind as we go.
Conflict. The same argument on repeat, and the distance that grows when nothing gets resolved. You can feel the fight coming before the words start. In session we slow the loop down and practice a cleaner way through it.
Patterns. Identifying what repeats. Most couples are not having a hundred different arguments, they are having one argument a hundred times. Radar Skills are how you learn to see the pattern while it is happening instead of the next morning, and that is usually where things start to turn.
Betrayal. An affair, a hidden habit, or a promise that did not hold. Trust does not snap back because someone says sorry. We work in the open: what happened, what it cost, and what honesty looks like going forward.
Disconnection. Some couples stop fighting and start drifting. Schedules fill. The friendship thins out. We rebuild small points of contact that are real.
Communication. Saying what you mean without starting a war, and hearing what your spouse actually said.
Agreements. Clear commitments you can both keep, written in plain language: who does what, by when, and how you repair it when someone misses.

Relationship Radar means staying aware of three things at once: what is happening inside you, how you land on your spouse, and whether this is the same loop again.
We use the ones that fit you. The work is practical and direct, and you leave each session with something specific to practice, so the change shows up in a real week and not only in the room.

No insurance? Private pay is 200 dollars per couples session, 53 to 60 minutes, billed one session at a time. A sliding fee scale is available for private pay.
