Does insurance cover marriage counseling?

Sometimes. It depends on your plan and on whether the sessions treat a diagnosed condition in one spouse. Premarital counseling is not covered. I explain how it works in Does insurance cover marriage counseling in California?

What if my plan isn’t listed?

You can still book as private pay. Couples can check their plan on my Find your plan page.

The first session is $200. After that, 4 prepaid sessions are $600, which saves you $200. If you stop early, unused sessions are refunded. Premarital counseling is private pay.

Yes. The sliding fee scale can be discussed after your first session, or write to info@marriageandfamily.com.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay privately, you get a written estimate of your costs before your first session. It is your right under federal law. Read more on my Good Faith Estimate page.

Sessions and who I see

How do sessions work?

Sessions are 53 to 60 minutes by secure video. I see adults 18 and older anywhere in California. You can meet from home, a private office, or a parked car.

Who do you work with?

I see individual adults for ADHD, anger, anxiety and panic, depression, trauma, childhood trauma, addiction, and men’s issues. For couples, I see married and engaged couples. Premarital counseling is for engaged couples.

Christian Counseling is available.

Do both spouses have to come?

No. Couples sessions are for both of you, but you can start on your own. Many people do.

Can I start alone if my spouse won’t come?

Yes. You do not have to wait for your spouse to go first. Individual counseling is a good place to start, and couples sessions are an option when you both want to work on the marriage.
